Background

Helping nature recover and flourish by restoring wild habitats across the UK. Rewilding Britain is leading the charge to restore nature on a massive scale – bringing back habitats and species that once thrived across our landscapes. By giving space back to nature and working with local communities, their projects tackle biodiversity loss, lock away carbon, improve water quality, and create healthier places for people and wildlife alike.

Why did we choose this project?

We want to support projects that deliver both measurable climate impact and lasting change for communities. Rewilding Britain stood out because their approach combines ecological restoration with social and economic benefits. By supporting them, we help accelerate a movement that not only fights the climate crisis but also revives the beauty and resilience of Britain’s natural environment.

How does it work?

Rewilding Britain supports practical projects across the country that: - Restore habitats like peatlands, wetlands, woodlands and grasslands - Reintroduce missing species where appropriate, helping ecosystems rebalance - Partner with farmers, landowners and communities to ensure local voices shape the process - Inspire and connect rewilding projects nationwide through knowledge-sharing and networks Every initiative is about letting nature take the lead – reducing intensive management so natural processes like grazing, regeneration and flooding can restore balance.

How do we know it's working?

Impact is tracked using clear ecological and social measures. These include: - Increases in biodiversity, such as the return of native plants, pollinators and birds. - Carbon gains from restored peatlands, wetlands and expanding woodlands. - Improvements to soil health, water retention and flood protection. - Community benefits such as eco-tourism opportunities and enhanced wellbeing. Rewilding Britain shares regular progress updates and case studies, showing how landscapes are transforming and wildlife is making a comeback.
